The Proposal

Picture
Let me set the scene...

We had just purchased our first home together the previous week and we had been moving & painting all weekend! I was covered in paint & sweat. I desperately needed a shower but, in the middle of a weekend like that, who has time? I just wanted to be done moving! I was tired and weak and wanted to wave a magic wand and have everything put in its place!

The last box had finally been moved into our new house. We were officially "Moved‐In". We decided it was definitely time for a beer! Josh had put a few in the freezer and he told me to get them out. My mom happened to be standing right by the fridge so she opened it and got them out! (Ignoring a Zales box that sat right on top of them...She wasn't aware of what was going on.) The plan hadn't worked as he thought it would.

After about 5 minutes, Josh said "Hey Babe, Get that other thing out of the freezer..." I didn't think anything of it so I opened the freezer door and saw the box sitting right in the middle! I reached in to get it and I opened it to take a peek but it was empty...

I turned around and Josh was on his knee in the middle of our brand new living room holding the ring. The first thing I said was, "Oh no! Don't do this right now, I look like shit!" He said, "You look beautiful!" His proposal was simple & sweet. ("We're starting our new life together in our new house.......")

All of this gave my mom enough time to figure out what was going on and grab her camera to take a picture! I cried. Josh cried. My mom cried. Immediately after, I had to go take a shower & get dressed! At a moment like that, you don't want to be stinky and covered with paint & sweat! I showered & freshened up and enjoyed the rest of the evening! Family & friends stopped by to congratulate us and see the ring!

We didn't realize at the time that Josh proposed on my dad & step‐mom's wedding anniversary! What a coincidence!
